MIS for MFIs

Its useful to think of the challenges facing the MFIs as different from those facing software vendors trying to serve this market. This was the key insight that led many in the industry to push for a market place of solutions. The result was the CGAP rating system and third party evaluations. This was to be applied to only those systems that were commercially available, and implemented in more than one country.

This is a good threshold, as many saw that over and over, MFIs were investing in inhouse solutions that had to be abandoned after a few years. Or, that when one tried to apply successful inhouse development efforts to a different MFI, that the challenge of serving new requirements made it too challenging.
